José Javier Pagán-Ortiz brings over 30 years of dedication and expertise to his role as a Certified Public Accountant and Consultant. Known for his deep commitment to client success, José has a distinguished record in financial analysis, forensic accounting, insurance loss settlements, and business advisory. Bilingual in English and Spanish, he has worked alongside clients across diverse industries, helping them navigate financial complexities with strategic precision and a steadfast focus on compliance and accuracy.
In his current capacity as a Business Consultant, José Javier partners with clients to provide budgeting, forecasting, and process optimization that drive growth and efficiency. His recent work with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) underscores his capability in high-stakes environments, where he managed general ledger reviews, pre-closing entries, and supported external audits for this $3.2 billion corporation. As a Sole Practitioner, José Javier has since focused on insurance loss and litigation support, specializing in business income loss, extra expense assessments, and economic damages.
Before transitioning to a consulting role, José Javier led MGI Pagán-Ortiz & Co., CPA, PSC as Principal and General Manager, where he oversaw all aspects of audit operations, client relations, and administrative functions, including recruitment, training, and quality control. After successfully guiding the firm through a period of growth and development, José sold MGI Pagán-Ortiz & Co. in 2017. His impressive foundation also includes key roles with respected CPA firms across Puerto Rico. As Audit Partner at González, Pagán & Co., P.S.C., he managed audit engagements and client relationships, and at Ylisástigui, Orol & Company, he led engagements spanning healthcare, real estate, and construction. His early roles as an Semi-senior Auditor at RSM Puerto Rico (formerly Vila del Corral & Company) and Junior Auditor at Campos & Stratis developed his skills in complex assignments, including insurance loss settlements and business interruption claims.
Beyond his professional achievements, José Javier is dedicated to community service, serving as Treasurer for Hogar Padre Venard, Inc., a nonprofit for the homeless in San Juan. Under his stewardship, the organization increased event funding by 20%, reflecting his commitment to making a difference. Throughout his career, José has been driven by the belief that sound financial guidance can empower both businesses and communities, a perspective that defines his work and the meaningful impact he strives to achieve.
